Tomás Santos
Residency period: February – March 2022
Bio: Tomás found out at an early stage that he wanted to be an artist. He studied printmaking and silk-screening at Escola Artística António Arroios, following an Illustration course at ESAD – School of Arts and Design in Caldas da Rainha which he dropped after a semester. Later, Tomás joined the Painting course at Ar.Co, which he just recently finished. Tomás Santos identifies himself as a multidisciplinary artist: he creates large scale paintings, sound design and musical production, video and 3D modeling.
Residency purpose: with this artistic residency Tomás Santos was looking for the space and time to continue working in his painting practice and also focus on developing digital artworks where he could interconnect all his areas of interest. At the same time, Tomás was looking to be integrated in a creative community, where he could find the support and orientation for his development as an artist.
Outcome and involvement with NEAR – Protocol:
By the end of the residency program, Tomás did an exhibition at Arroz Estúdios, showing all the artwork created during the period and also created a digital work that was transformed into an NFT and is available on Mintbase.
