A exposição KINDERGATTEN vem celebrar a continuação de ideias e abordagens iniciadas na obra plástica “O concerto gratuito” (2012), de Afonso Matias, e na curta “Onde o meu amigo pintou um quadro” (2014), de Pedro Florêncio.

Após ter recorrido pela primeira vez à chapa de ferro como suporte, tal prática veio a afirmar-se como eixo determinante no meu trabalho, a partir do qual os respectivos processos têm sido um estudo extenso de base experimental. Nas obras que se seguiram ao “Concerto Gratuito”, aqui apresentadas, procurei sempre experimentar novas técnicas e processos, revelando novos modos de entendimento do material, assim como os utensílios/ferramentas provenientes das mais diversas práticas disciplinares.

Eis alguns aspectos relevantes para a compreensão dos processos e das obras aqui expostas:

– Visualmente, interessou-me explorar tonalidades cromáticas vibrantes, que derivam de uma evidente existência de possíveis jogos entre a luminosidade e as sombras projectadas por certos elementos; assim, a dimensão composicional assume um aspecto estruturante e transversal a todas as obras;

– Processualmente, é relevante referir que o uso de uma caneta digital no software Photoshop permitiu a exploração da noção de construção da imagem a partir de camadas (layers);

– Tecnicamente, a rebarbadora adquiriu uma importância determinante no processo construtivo, apesar da prevalência do pincel e da tinta acrílica;

– Conceptualmente, foram explorados os limites entre o real e o abstracto, existindo uma tensão assumida entre referentes reais (de origem fotográfica) e as obras produzidas manualmente;

– Tematicamente, centrei-me maioritariamente em parques infantis, pelas estruturas de design urbano e cujas composições e tensões entre linhas me intrigam. Outra fonte importante de inspiração reside no contacto recente com os mais diversos materiais abandonados em estaleiros municipais, sucatas ou centros de reciclagem.

Esta mostra resulta novamente numa colaboração com o Pedro Florêncio, realizador e professor de cinema, que aqui apresenta uma nova curta metragem, “Teatro”, na qual se capta e dramatiza o processo de um trabalho aqui exposto: “Empilhamento 3”. A documentação do processo artístico persiste em ser o motivo principal, agora captada num diferente espaço e com oito anos de distância da primeira experiência colaborativa.

KINDERGATTEN comes to celebrate the continuation of ideas and approaches triggered in the art work “O concerto gratuito”, 2012, Afonso Matias and the shortcut- film “Onde o meu amigo pintou um quadro”, 2014, Pedro Florêncio.

In recent years, after experiencing for the first time using an iron plate as a medium — it became a fundamental axis of Afonso’s work and its respective process has been a extensive study of experimental base. The pieces that followed ‘The Free Concert’, where I always sought to try new techniques and procedures, display ways of understanding the material, as well as the utensils/tools emerging from the different disciplinary practices.

Here are some relevant aspects for understanding the processes and works exposed:

– Visually, the interest is in exploring vibrant chromatic tonalities arising from a clear existence of possible games between the light and the shadows emitted by certain elements. Thus, the compositional dimension takes on a structuring and cross-sectional feature in all of the pieces.

– Procedurally, it is important to mention that the use of a digital pen in Photoshop has enabled the possibility of exploring the notion of image construction from layers.

– Technically, the grinder has acquired key importance in the constructive process, despite the prevailing importance of the brush and acrylic paint.

– Conceptually, the boundaries between what is real and what is abstract are frequently explored, existing an open tension between real references (of photographic origin) and the works produced manually.

– On a thematic level, the focus is mainly on playgrounds, due to their urban design structures, where the compositions and tensions among the lines intrigue me. Another major source of inspiration lies in a recent experience with the various abandoned materials found in municipal yards, junkyards or recycling centres.

This presentation again results in a collaboration with Pedro Florêncio, director and cinema professor, who display’s here a new shortcut – “Teatro”, in which it’s captured and dramatised the process making of a work here presente: “Empilhamento 3”. The documentation of the artistic process persist in being the principal motive, now captured in a different space and with eight years spacing it between the first collaborative experience.
